“Powder Mountain feels like your own private powder paradise. The best place for vast, untouched terrain.”
Why it’s awesome
Size and Scale
With over 8,000 acres of skiable terrain, Powder Mountain is one of the largest ski resorts in the United States. Unlike other crowded resorts, this vast landscape ensures limitless exploration with nearly untouched slopes.
Out of the resort’s total area, 5,000 acres are serviced by lifts. About 3300 acres are dedicated to guided tours and cat skiing. This terrain can be skinned or hiked to as well. Powder Mountain offers a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails, making it accessible for all skill levels. The lack of crowds and a multitude of beginner and intermediate trails make the resort extremely family friendly.
Less Crowded, More Powder
What makes Powder Mountain truly unique is its capped ticket sales. By limiting the daily number of skiers and snowboarders, the resort ensures low-traffic slopes, allowing the powder to stay pristine for longer. When conditions are ideal, fresh snow can linger on the mountain for days after a storm something you won’t often find at other resorts in the area. This means fresh tracks and untouched runs well beyond the first day of snowfall.
Powder is not included in the IKON or EPIC Pass, resulting in smaller crowds and a tighter feeling of community.
Powder Mountain’s Sundown lift runs until 9 PM, offering incredible night skiing under the stars.
CAT Skiing in Utah
Powder Mountain is renowned for having the best CAT skiing in Utah. There are a few snowcat options which currently cost around $40. Lightning Ride is the most notable, most of the areas are so wide it is hard to not find fresh tracks. Most of the rides can also be skinned or boot packed in 10-20 minutes if you choose. Either way you’ll find some pretty awesome runs.
The Greatest Snow on Earth®
Utah’s trademarked “Greatest Snow on Earth®” slogan isn’t just marketing—it’s science. The powder has a perfect light and dry composition that feels divine to ski through. The state’s unique geography is to thank for its legendary powder. As Pacific storms cross the Sierra Nevada, they lose much of their moisture, leaving lighter, drier snow by the time they reach Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. This low moisture snow is soft, fluffy, and perfect for skiing. The Wasatch Range’s high elevation, cold temperatures, and ideal orientation ensure heavy snowfall and preserve its quality. With consistent storms, dry air, and perfect terrain, Utah’s snow has earned its reputation among skiers and snowboarders worldwide.
Après Ski & Surrounding Area
