All About Palisades Tahoe
A Resort with History
Palisades Tahoe is a crown jewel of the IKON Pass. Over 6,000 skiable acres across Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows, the resort offers one of the most dynamic ski experiences in North America. The Base-to-Base Gondola connects both mountains, letting you chase sun and powder all day without removing your boots. From the legendary steeps of KT-22 to wide-open bowls and hidden glades, this is a resort made for exploration.
Olympic legacy, reliable snowfall, and extended spring skiing into May (sometimes June), Palisades Tahoe stands apart. Formerly Squaw Valley, it hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics and proudly honors that heritage. The Village is compact and charming, but dining and lodging book quickly—plan ahead or consider nearby Truckee for more options.
Terrain for Every Skill Level
For Beginners and Intermediates
There is a dedicated beginner’s learning area at both the Palisades and the Alpine Base for true beginners. This helps you learn the basics without the distraction of crowded slopes.
Much of the beginner and intermediate terrain is accessible from the Palisades Tram. Lifts like Big Blue Express, Gold Coast Express, and Emigrant allow easy repeat access to groomed trails. Much of the central trails are groomed and designated slow zones.
Roundhouse Express on the Alpine side services groomed blue runs as well. Overall there is plenty of beginner to intermediate terrain to explore and good progression opportunities to test your skills.
For Advanced and Expert Skiers
You will find what you’re looking for here. Palisades Tahoe is legendary. Advanced skiers head ride straight to the Base to Base Gondola, exiting at KT-22. This is where you will find some of the most iconic runs in North America. Thrilling steeps, technical chutes, moguls, you name it you can find it.
The mountain is covered with challenging terrain. The Headwall Express is another chair you need to loop as well as Granite Chair. The Alpine Side offers great lines as well, notably the Summit Chair and Scott’s Chair give access to open bowls and steep gladed tree runs. You can explore different terrain for days at Palisades.
Beyond the epic terrain, skiing here is accentuated by stunning lake views and dramatic alpine vistas. This resort truly lives up to its reputation as the best expert skiing in the Lake Tahoe.

Spring Skiing Capital
Palisades Tahoe has rightfully earned the nickname “Spring Skiing Capital.” Thanks to its high elevation, excellent snowpack, and north facing terrain, the resort often extends operations into late May, and some years even see slopes open into June or July. Sunny days, soft snow, and a festive atmosphere make spring an incredible time to visit.
Pro Tip: Keep an eye out for their famous spring skiing events, with casual costumes, pond-skimming competitions, and live DJ sets providing the perfect way to cap off your ski season!
Beyond the Slopes at Palisades Tahoe
The Village at Palisades is not overwhelming and there are some great dining spots available with a cozy setting after a day on the slopes. For those seeking more variety, the historic town of Truckee is just a 20-minute drive away, offering an array of options including some fine dining.
Pro Tip: You will often find live music, concerts and events at the stage at the bottom of the mountain!

Best Lodging for Palisades Tahoe
Palisades has ski in/ski out options right in the village or you can stay in nearby Truckee and drive about 20 minutes to the resort. My recommendation is to stay in the village and drive to Truckee for a nice dinner if you choose as sometimes the route can be filled with traffic in the evenings.
