“Stare down Corbet’s Couloir and you’ll realize Jackson Hole isn’t just a ski trip; it’s a rite of passage”
Why it’s awesome
Jackson Hole and Teton Village are entirely located within Grand Teton National Park. Per Jackson Hole Resort only 3% of the land in the Jackson Hole area is privately owned with over 3.8 million acres in Teton County being federally owned or state managed, This means that the ski resort is surrounded by untouched natural beauty and wildlife reserves. It is not uncommon to see large game during your visit such as elk, moose, bison and a variety of large birds.
The resort is renowned for its expert terrain. Signature runs include Corbet’s Couloir—a bucket-list run true Powder Hunters and the Alta Chutes. The Hobacks, and Rendezvous Bowl are known for wide-open steeps, provide some of the most unforgettable skiing experiences in North America. If you’re up for a short hike, areas like Cody Bowl has untouched powder and a backcountry feel within resort boundaries. Honestly take the aerial tram up and any way down will be exhilarating.

The Aerial Tram or “Big Red” runs from the base to the top of Rendezvous Mountain. The tram climbs a whopping 4,139 feet in 9 minutes and holds up to 100 people. At the top you’ll see 360° views of Grand Teton National Park from the 10,450 ft Rendezvous Summit. Coming down from the peak you’ll find chutes, bowls, and the famous Corbet’s Couloir where they host the Kings and Queens of Corbet’s ski competition every year.
Jackson Hole knows offers the Steep & Deep Ski Camp for those who want to master riding on expert terrain. Beyond Corbet’s Couloir, highlights include Alta Chutes, Tower Three, and Expert Chutes.
Coming off Apres Vous Mountain and Teton Lift Summit you will find intermediate and advanced but not quite expert-level terrain, which is good for when your legs need a break from steeper runs. For those sticking to intermediate and beginner slopes, the resort might feel more compact, as over 50% of Jackson Hole’s terrain is geared toward advanced and expert riders.
With a summit elevation of 10,450 feet and a base at 6,311 feet, Jackson Hole’s elevation can take some adjustment. Be prepared for thinner air, stay hydrated, and give yourself time to acclimate for the best experience on the mountain.
Après Ski
There are several dining and après-ski spots right at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, you’ll find happy hour deals and most of the restaurants in Teton Village to be concentrated around the village center where they set up the ice skating rink. Mangy Moose is the classic Jackson Hole classic live music, bar and restaurant. There are three restaurants inside of the Four Seasons as well.
You can also explore the Town of Jackson, about 30 minutes away. Jackson has an authentic Western charm rather than a commercialized ski-town vibe and is also home to Snow King King Mountain, Wyoming’s original ski resort.
Stroll down Broadway avenue and explore the Town Square Park to see elk antler arches and unique boutiques and art galleries. For dining there’s a range of options from Thai food to pizza to more upscale options like the Snake River Grill.
National Parks
If you want a true taste of the area you need to check out the natural beauty of Grand Teton National Park, which is about 10 miles north, or head to the South Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, approximately a 2 hour drive. You can enjoy the stunning scenery while dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, or on a guided tour.

Many tours will transport you from your hotel if you choose not to rent a car or understandably do not want to drive through Wyoming during the winter. One of a kind experiences include visiting Old Faithful in Yellowstone or a horse drawn sleigh ride at the National Elk Refuge among herds of Elk. These top Jackson Hole activities for families are easily found on Viator or I’m happy to help arrange along with a custom ski trip itinerary.
