The Heavenly Gondola runs right into downtown South Lake Tahoe. This makes the slopes easily accessible and within walking from most of the lodging options downtown.

Beginner Terrain
For those just starting out, Heavenly offers several beginner friendly spots. Both the Boulder Learning Area and the Enchanted Forest by the California Lodge have gentle slopes.
If you’re ready to progress, ride the gondola to Tamarack Lodge, which features easy greens and short, beginner-friendly blues to ease your transition.
Intermediate Terrain
Intermediate skiers and snowboarders will find their paradise here, as Heavenly is predominantly an intermediate mountain. Ridge Run, located on the California side, offers approachable slopes with fantastic views of Lake Tahoe.
Over on the Nevada side, Stagecoach provides wider trails ideal for build confidence and gaining speed. The Galaxy Lift and Dipper Express both have great predominantly intermediate terrain.
Advanced Terrain & Glades
The most advanced terrain at Heavenly is at Mott Canyon and Killebrew Canyon for steep chutes and expert-only terrain. You can enter the back country gates and loop the Mott Canyon Lift.
For tree lovers, there are excellent glades all over Heavenly. Ski Ways Glades are perfectly spaced designated tree runs but with good powder you can duck off all over the resort.
The Best Photo Spots on the Mountain
Prepare to fill your Instagram feed because Heavenly is packed with iconic photo locations. There are great spots all over the mountain. Some best spots include:
- Ridge Run – Picture-perfect views of Lake Tahoe with snow-dusted mountains in the background. This is a long, groomed blue run that is fun to cruise and loop with the Sky Express.
- Skyline Trail – Sweeping panoramas, ideal for a group photo.
- The Pinnacles – My best recommendation for photographs is on Pinnacles. Pinnacles is a relatively steep black diamond run and incredibly fun.
